Intermittent fasting (IF) isn't magic. By itself it doesn't help you lose weight. It doesn't give you a license to eat as much as you want. All it does is increase your chances of eating less (so being in a calorie deficit) by limiting the hours in a day that you're allowed to eat.

Simple concept being, if you're free to eat 16hrs a day, cutting that down to 6-8hrs decreases the amount of time you eat, which hopefully (keyword: hopefully) decreases the total amount of food you eat as well.

It's totally possible to gain weight through intermittent fasting. Y'still gotta be mindful of your portions.

Here what it looks like in a 1500kcal example:

Normal Meal timing:

  • 7am Breakfast - 400kcal
  • 12pm Lunch - 400kcal
  • 4pm Snack - 300kcal
  • 7pm Dinner - 400kcal
  • Total: 1500kcal

IF 16/8

  • 7am Breakfast - 0kcal
  • 12pm Lunch - 600kcal
  • 4pm Snack - 300kcal
  • 8pm Dinner - 600kcal
  • Total: 1500kcal

IF 18/6

  • 7am Breakfast - 0kcal
  • 12pm Lunch - 750kcal
  • 4pm Snack - 0kcal
  • 6pm Dinner - 750kcal
  • Total: 1500kcal

OMAD (one meal a day)
  • 7am Breakfast - 0kcal
  • 12pm Lunch - 0kcal
  • 4pm Snack - 0kcal
  • 6pm Dinner - 1500kcal
  • Total: 1500kcal
The timing of IF doesn't make a difference if calories at the end of the day are the same. No special timing accelerates fat loss when calories are are the same at the end of the day. It's merely a weight loss method that helps you stick to your goals.

For me, I've been on 18/6 for about a year now. It serves two huge purposes for me:

1) Helps me deal with my tendency to snack.
2) Gives me bigger meals so I feel more satiated each meal.

IF helps me stay consistent without too much effort by merely staying within the timing window. 18/6 for me isn't some special number, it just happens to be the number I'm most comfortable with. I'm not super strict with it either, generally it's 18/6, but there are days where I go 16/8 if I feel hungry earlier, or 20/4 on a busier day.

It's not magic, it's just a tool to help.

At the end of the day you still need to be consistently in calorie deficit to lose weight. Thanks for join in my site about How to Simplifying Our Intermittent Fasting?. Enjoy
